Oconee Nuclear Plant

Oconee is one of three Duke Power nuclear plants. Located near Seneca, SC, on the Keowee-Toxaway project, this plant is a three unit Pressurized Water plant with a total capacity of 2538 Megawatts. Oconee was the first Duke Nuke, with construction starting in 1967, and Unit 1 going on line in 1973. Units 2 and 3 followed in 1974. In 2000, Duke received a 20 year extension on the 40 year license for Oconee.

Like we said before, Duke still operates Visitors' Centers at all of its Nuke plants. Be sure to visit one when you get a chance. The shot above was taken from the World Of Energy at the Oconee site, the one at the top of the page was borrowed from the Duke Power web site.
