Oconee Nuclear Plant |
|
Oconee is one of three Duke Power nuclear plants. Located near Seneca, SC, on the Keowee-Toxaway project, this plant is a three unit Pressurized Water plant with a total capacity of 2538 Megawatts. Oconee was the first Duke Nuke, with construction starting in 1967, and Unit 1 going on line in 1973. Units 2 and 3 followed in 1974. In 2000, Duke received a 20 year extension on the 40 year license for Oconee. |

Like we said before, Duke still operates Visitors' Centers at all of its Nuke plants. Be sure to visit one when you get a chance. The shot above was taken from the World Of Energy at the Oconee site, the one at the top of the page was borrowed from the Duke Power web site. |
