We were excited about the fact that this old plaque
showed Hales Bar Dam, which has since been replaced with Nickajack Dam. We
completely overlooked the fact that the Alcoa Dams, which were not identified
on the TVA map that we had, WERE identified here! The Nantahala and Thorpe
Dams, however, are no longer operated by APGI, but instead by
Natahala Power and
Light, now a subsidiary of Duke Power. Another Dam Quest in the planning
stage! Also missing is the Tellico Dam, where the Little Tennessee River meets
the (big?) Tennessee River, right next to the Fort Loudoun Dam.
