TVA's Normandy Dam

This dam was supposed to be one of a two dam project on the Duck River in Central Tennessee (see the story here). This dam, which was completed in 1976, stands 110 feet high by 2,741 feet long. It is similar in construction to Tellico dam, a long earthen dam with a concrete gated spillway at one end. This is a non-power producing dam, but well worth a visit if you are in the area. The Normandy Fish Hatchery is close by.

A view back from the other end of the dam. Notice the sign prohibiting "sledding, off road vehicles" on the "lawn"... you don't want to encourage erosion here!
