RE: The Tapoco Project, FERC No. 2169

We are occasional visitors to the area of North Carolina and Tennessee that surrounds the Tapoco Project. We understand that Alcoa Power Generating, Inc. is in the process of re- licensing this project. We respectfully ask you to consider that the power generated by this project is vital to the operation of Alcoa’s smelting operation in Alcoa, TN, and directly supports approximately 2100 jobs in this area. We implore you not to cripple the power production from this project just for recreational interests on the Cheoah River or on Santeetlah Lake. We ask this not because we have any affiliation with Alcoa or any of its subsidiaries, but because we feel that hydropower is absolutely necessary to reduce the amount of fossil fuels burned for power production. We further request that this comment be made part of the public record for the re-licensing process.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Charles and Janice Kelley
